Personal Project

The MYP Personal Project could be your chance to realize a long-held ambition of working on an out-of-the-box idea. If you are presently enrolled in the Middle Years Program, the MYP Personal Project must be completed in your final year before beginning the IBDP. The personal project allows you to construct a project of your choice while consolidating your classroom learning. The goal of the initiative is to put participants' “self-management, research, communication, critical and creative thinking, and collaboration” skills to the test.

The Personal Project, unlike the e-assessments, is a required component of the MYP and is externally moderated. The Personal Project is a fantastic program that encourages independent thinking and cross-disciplinary learning. The MYP's mandate for this is extensive, and the basic concept behind these initiatives is well-suited to many aspects of the IBDP, as well as university education. In terms of moderation, a sample of projects is sent out in order to moderate all of the school's grades equally.

As the personal project requires approximately 25 hours of labor, it is critical that you select a topic that you will like learning about. In your final presentation or report, you must also mention your personal interest in the project. Finding something that both interests you and meets the requirements can be difficult. It may be difficult to change your focus from developing content for your personal project to writing your report now that you have a topic that you are passionate about.

Criteria A, B, C, and D will be used to grade your personal project. While having a solid product/outcome is essential for your own project, there is only one criterion that specifically focuses on product quality. The other criteria are concerned with your study and inquiry, as well as the planning and evaluation of your product and its objectives. As a result, it may be advantageous to devote a major portion of your time to producing your report.

Criterion A: Investigation
Make an effort to create a clear aim for your project and link it to your personal interests. Do some in-depth study on the aim. For instance, if you are developing a website to educate people about global warming, conducting research on the subject would be advantageous. Try to explain why your project is important.

Criterion B: Planning
Create a detailed plan for achieving your objectives. Keep track of your progress. When you try to remember everything, you did during the last few months the night before your report is due, it can be difficult.

Criterion C: Action
Concentrate on producing a high-quality product/outcome that is related to your aim.

Criterion D: Evaluation
A little self-criticism is never a bad thing! Concentrate on what you did well, what you might need to improve on. Remember that an honest evaluation is worth 25% of your grade, so think about your approach and outcome.

At IB Scholars, we have IB MYP tutors and writing support consultants who are aware of the grading criteria and help students choose a topic that best fits their personality and matches the research requirements that will be taken into consideration for the final marking.
