IB Language & Literature Tutoring in Dubai
MYP Students must learn an additional language in the Middle Years Programme (MYP) as it allows them to gain insight into the characteristics, processes, and techniques of language, as well as the concept of culture, and to recognize that there are many ways of living in the world. Language learning is a requirement of the MYP in each of the program’s years. For each year of the MYP, students are engaged in continuous language study of at least two languages.
An international education requires the ability to communicate in several formats and in more than one language. The language acquisition course provides students with a linguistic and intellectual challenge in order to help them have the greatest educational experience possible. Students are given the opportunity to fully develop their language abilities while also having the option of progressing through various phases during the MYP.
Teaching and learning in this subject group is divided into six phases. The phases have no relation to specific age groups or MYP year classes. They are all assessed on Criteria A, B, C, and D
- Criteria A is ‘comprehending spoken and visual text’ assesses the student's ability to recognize basic language conventions.
- Criteria B is ‘comprehending written and visual text’, and it checks the students' ability to recognize aspects of format and style and identify the author's purpose for writing and representation.
- Criteria C is centered on 'communicating in response to spoken/or written and/or visual text,’ and it checks the students' ability to use basic phrases to communicate ideas, feelings and information.
- Criteria D is based on ‘using language in spoken and/ or written form’ and helps students to organize information and use a range of cohesive devices to apply new language in real-world circumstances.
